‘Youngbloods’ 7×7 by D.I.A

Posted on: April 11th 2012

Recently Potato Press had the honour of presenting at the first forum in the 7×7 talk series ‘Youngbloods’ hosted by Design Institute of Australia at Rabbit and Cocoon on the Gold Coast.

The inaugural Seven by Seven Talk Series promotes collaborative design practice on the Gold Coast and celebrates the creative culture, leisure and lifestyle of the local community. This unique Gold Coast initiative provides connections and networking opportunities for emerging and established design professionals, design students and design related organisations with an aim to initiate collaborative projects that stimulate the design community on the Gold Coast.

The talk featured seven local guest speakers that spoke for seven minutes each covering topics which related to various design disciplines. These included Claudio Kirac from Billabong, Rob Bare from R&B, Kiel Tillman from Potato Press, Luke Brown from Mixr, Dominique Falla from Qld College of Art, Paul Everest from Unit and Jolie Hertzberg from Rabbit and Cocoon.

Sustainable Products

Posted on: October 19th 2011

Potato Press is committed to sourcing, promoting and providing timber products that are certified under FSC ®. As an active supporter of the campaign to improve forest management and with growing public awareness of environmental issues, we have made significant moves towards stocking a wider range of products that originate from certified forests.

As a natural and potentially sustainable resource, well managed forests from which forest products are produced, provide significant and measurable environmental and economic benefits to communities, regions, countries and consumers.

Organisations such as Forest Stewardship Council ® (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) have developed standards outlining what is required to ensure forests are well managed. Forests are certified by an independent third-party against these standards.

Consumers need to be able to identify which wood products have originated from certified forests. This can be difficult, as wood can pass through various owners and processes before reaching the consumer.

Potato Press are committed to caring for our environment, both natural and man-made, to the best of our ability.

Laser Cut Mosaic Screen

Posted on: February 4th 2011

Today we put up our Laser Cut Mosaic Screen in our mezzanine studio.

We got our Joiner, Rex Casson from Naramaa Joinery, to make a rail for the top and bottom anchor points. He used a beautiful old piece of Camphor Laurel he had at his factory.

The panels themselves are Laser Cut from 3mm MDF Board. We used MDF because it is nice and cheap and the Laser loves cutting it.

We used a rail system with stainless steel wires and clamps to hold the panels in place. We intend to change the image every few months, so the rail system gives us the flexibility to switch the size and the amount of panels used.

It turned out great! The best thing is, you can see it from both upstairs in the studio and downstairs in the front reception. Drop by and check it out!

They turned out great. So I took some pics of her outrageously delicious cupcakes before they were all gone……
